2023-2024 List of Events

Choir Camp

Choir camp has become a TC West Choirs tradition.  This 3-day event sets the tone for the upcoming choral school year.  Camp is filled with team building activities and music that allows our students to get to know each other and find their home!  Choir camp also allows for rehearsal of the staple songs for every school year with such titles as our "The Fighin' Titan" and our beloved holiday song of "All is Well" and our end of year song for our seniors, "Friends".   This camp is an opportunity for our Seniors to lead and set an example for the program and TC West Senior High.  This event typically takes place sometime during the first week of August.  This event closes with a family style gathering/BBQ (still TBD) with parents/guardians in attendance to learn about the program, watch some team spirit unfold and fantastic music be made.

Harriet Tubman Project

The TCAPS Choral Departments of Central and West High Schools present “The Journey of Harriet Tubman” on Thursday, February 1 at the First Congregational Church at 7:00 PM. This performance will be the culmination event of the 3-day residency with the composer, Ron Kean and filmmaker, Hannah Kean. “The Journey of Harriet Tubman” is a multimedia work featuring familiar African-American Spirituals in the west African music style. The selected Spirituals reflect the life and times of Harriet Tubman with the voice of Harriet being sung by dramatic soprano Vanessa A. Allen, of Grand Rapids, Michigan.   (learn more in link below)

Mix & Mingle

Mix & Mingle or "Blues Buffet" is an open house style concert featuring all of our co-curricular vocal ensembles who will perform jazz/blues style pieces.  This year we will look to provide light appetizers as well as desserts.  Mix and Mingle is not a typical concert but rather is a fundraiser for West Senior High School Choirs.  There will be both a silent auction as well as live, in-person auction! Blues Buffet is sure to get you tapping your toes!

Solo & Ensemble Festival (District & State)

Solo & Ensemble Festival is managed by Michigan State Vocal Music Association providing adjudication for soloists and ensembles (20 students or less) at the district level.  Adjudicators listen to, evaluate and provide helpful tips to students in their growth as a performer.  The District Solo & Ensemble is local and for our school typically hosted at TC West HS.  Soloists and ensembles must obtain a minimum score to move on to the next level or  State Solo & Ensemble.  Students then return for States with different songs and are assessed in their sight reading skills.  At this level, those with top scores and perform at the highest level are selected to represent that site at MSVMA Top 10.  MSVMA Top 10 is held at Michigan State University in May and celebrates the accomplishments of select soloists and ensembles!

Choral Festival (District and State)

Choral Festival is an opportunity for our curricular choirs to perform in-front of adjudicators from around the state.  This opportunity allows for the choir to be scored on their performance but also to receive quality feedback which ultimately supports growth as performers.

Spring Concert

Simliar to the Fall "Green and Gold" concerts, our Spring Concert allows our students a chance to perform their spring pieces for family and friends.  Sometimes these concerts include the music performed for choral festival or pieces not yet performed for the public.  (more coming soon)

Annual Awards Banquet

Our Annual Awards Banquet is our end of year gathering in which we honor the accomplishments of our choral students with a focus on our seniors.  This awards banquet is "student-led" with the choir council and is typically themed!  One of our favorite gatherings of the year.  This event is a "pot-luck" style event with each grade level bringing a specific portion of the meal.

Music Boosters Benefit Concert

Music Boosters Benefit Concert is an end of year "collage" style concert where Traverse City West and Central Choirs, Bands, Orchestras come together to highlight their students.  This concert is our parent booster organization's largest fundraiser which supports choir, band and orchestra scholarships as well as music classroom mini-grants.  To learn more about Traverse City Music Boosters, our parent organization,  as well as some of the other events they put on, click below on "Learn more..."

Cabaret

Cabaret is a concert showcasing all the WSH curricular choirs, select ensembles, featured soloists and small ensembles. Due to limited audience space, the same concert will be presented on both evenings - so all students are involved on both nights. This event is both a student and audience favorite!  Click the link below to view previous concerts!
